In the future, you may wish to email us first. Please be familiar with the law before you go out trying to test it. Your wife could have very easily ended up in jail or going to court. Concealed carry in a building posted with a sign stating to the effect that firearms are posted is illegal.
Open carry does not require a permit, but library staff is so ill-informed on the law that they default to ask for permits as much of the ignorant public does. If you feel the need to do something, email the board of trustees and the head librarian.
